HOBART AIRMAN KILLED

F-Officer Middleton

Mrs B. J. Middleton, of Hobart, has been notified of the death of her husband, F-Officer Bertram John Middleton, on Aug. 5 as the result of air operations. F-Officer Middleton was a member of the crew of a Liberator bomber which was damaged by enemy fire while carrying out armed reconnaissance in a northern operational area. He was 25.

Before enlisting with the RAAF in 1939, F-Officer Middleton served abroad for nearly three years, and was recently awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. He was the eldest son of Mrs K. Middleton, of Dennes Pt., North Bruny, and was educated at St. Virgil's College, Hobart. Before enlisting he was employed in the Magisterial Dept., Hobart.

 In January F-Officer Middleton married Miss Jean Nichols, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Nichols. Hill St.. Hobart.
