Born 22 May 1919 St. Mary’s Tasmania to Herbert Arthur and Gladys Irene Butler (nee Grant) he was farming when he enlisted in the AIF and was posted to the 2/29 Battalion. 

NEWS OF SERVICEMEN

Pte V. Butler, son of Mr and Mrs H. A. Butler, 28 Ann St., Launceston, is reported to have died of illness in a prisoner of war camp in Malaya.  

Pte Butler was a member of the 8th Division, and was wounded in the Malayan campaign. He was born at St. Marys, was in his 24th year, and unmarried. A brother, Sgt K. Butler (RAAF), was killed in an aircraft accident in England in 1941.
